History of Most Famous Game Football
A game played by two teams of eleven players, using a round ball which players kick up and down the playing field. Teams trying to kick the ball into the other’s team goal. The most popular version of this game is known as “association football” or “soccer”. Episkyros
The ancient Greeks and Romans are known to have played many ball games, which involved the use of the feet. For example a Roman game harpastum and a Greek team game known as Episkyros closely resembled to rugby Football. Evidences also show that football like game had been played by Chinese military between 3rd and 1st century BC.
Cuju
This was a practice game known as Cuju, involved kicking a leather ball through a small hole in a piece of silk cloth which was fixed on bamboo canes about 9 meters above the ground. Kemari and Chuk- guk were the modified versions of Cuju that were played in Japan and Korea respectively.
Kemari
Kemari the Japanese version of Cuju was developed during the Asuka period. It has been played within Japanese imperial court in Kyoto from about 600 AD. In this game several people stand in a circle and kick a ball to each other, trying not to let the ball drop to the ground.
There are number are evidences that many ball games have been played by indigenous people in many parts of the world. For example; Aqsaqtuk, each match began with two team facing each other in parallel line before attempting to kick the ball through each other team’s line and then at a goal. Pahsaheman was played by Native Americans in 17th century.
Marn Grook
Marn Grook (ball game) was played by several tribes of indigenous people on the Australian continent. A game of kicking and catching in which a player would drop kick a ball made from the skin of possum and other leaped into the air to catch it.it is thought that Marn Grook was one of the origins of Australian Rules football.
Medieval Football:
It was played in Europe particularly, in England in Middle Ages. In France a ball game was played, known as La Soule, in which ball was propelled by feet, hands and sticks in 12th century.
Mob Football:
It is the early forms of the football played in England between towns and villages, involving an unlimited number of players, trying to move an item, such as inflated animal bladder to particular geographical points such as their opponent’s church etc. In Scotland, a game known as football was played in 15th century, which was banned by the Football Act 1424.
Calico Fiorentio:
It was played in 16th century, in Florence during the celebration of the period between Epiphany and Lent. Football was played continuously in its various forms in English public Schools in 16th century. They also credited to devise basic rules in football. Football association was founded in 1863 to decide the rules of football and the resulting game became known formerly as association football. It is sometimes also called Soccer.
FIFA (the Federation Internationale de Football Association):
International Federation of Association Football was founded in 21st May, 1904. Its motto is “For the Game. For the World”. It is the organization that controls the sport of football throughout the world. 209 national associations are the members of this organization.
