Heralded as the fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt is on 1^st place in 10 fastest 100m sprinters in the history. The lighting and fast Jamaican can run 100 meters in a matter of exactly 9.58 seconds. His major feat of achievement was the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when he won all gold medals in 3 sprinting events and set new world records. His personal best for the 200 m (19.26 seconds) is the second fastest ever after Bolt.

3. Tyson Gay (USA) – Fastest Time: 9.69 seconds

Tyson Gay is US sprinter. He is second fastest 100m sprinter in the world with an astonishing time of 9.69 seconds. During the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Gay also ran a wind-aided 9.68 (once the fastest 100 m under any condition) .Tyson Gay’s 9.69 is not only his personal best but American best as well making him combined second fastest athlete ever, after Usain Bolt. Gay is a four-time U.S. champion in the 100 m.

4. Asafa Powell (Jamaica) – Fastest Time: 9.72 seconds

Another Jamaican that features in 10 fastest 100m sprinters is Asafa Powell. Asafa once held the record of 100m between June 2005 and May 2008. This extraordinary runner is specialized in 100m sprints. Asafa Powell ran his fastest time 9.72 seconds, (once the world record) during heats at the 2007 IAAF Rieti Grand Prix.

5. Maurice Greene (USA) – Fastest Time: 9.79 seconds

The former world record holder Maurice Greene is on 5^th place in 10 fastest 100m sprinters in the history. Representing United States in 100 and 200 meters Maurice Greene won four Olympic medals. Not only sprinting Maurice Greene was a successful indoors as well. He won the 1999 world indoor championship.

6. Donovan Bailey (Canada) – Fastest Time: 9.84 seconds

Honored as first ever Canadian to break 10 seconds barrier in 100 meters, Donovan Bailey is next in 10 fastest 100m sprinters in the history. He once hold the record of 100 meters, his 9.84 record-breaking run at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games is 6th fastest in the 100m sprinting history.

7. Bruny Surin (Canada) – Fastest Time: 9.84 seconds

Another Canadian in the list is Bruny Surin. He is a Canadian track and field athlete. Surin broke 10 second-barrier multiple times during his career. His personal best in 100 meter sprint is 9.84 seconds, which he made in 1999 world championship. His second place finish of 9.84 at the 1999 World Championships was the fastest silver medal time ever. In 2008 he was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 Summer Olympics 4×100 relay team in which he also won gold medal for his country.

8. Leroy Burrell (USA) – Fastest Time: 9.85 seconds

The former American track and field athlete Leroy Burrell is next on the list of 10 fastest 100m sprinters in the world. Graduated from Houston’s university Burrell set the world record in 100m not once but twice in his career. He set his personal best as well as world record of 9.91 seconds in June 1991. Four years later Burrell again became the world record holder with a blazing speed of 9.85 seconds. The record stood until the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

9. Justin Gatlin (USA) – Fastest Time: 9.85 seconds

He is another USA sprinter who features in the 10 fastest 100m sprinters in the world. Justin won the gold medal in 100m dash. Not only that Justin Gatlin is also two times World indoor champion in the 60-meter dash. Gatlin’s fastest time was set at the 2004 Olympics with a gold medal winning 9.85 second run. Although his career was ruined when he got banned twice for testing positive for a banned substance, yet he made tremendous comeback at US Olympic trials, where Gatlin ran a time of 9.80s, which was the fastest-ever time for a man over the age of 30.

10. Olusoji Fasuba (Nigeria) – Fastest Time: 9.85 seconds

The only African sprinter in the list is Olusoji Fasuba from Nigeria. For many years, Olusoji Fasuba, has not only proven that he is an exceptional athlete. He is the current record holder in the 100m with an amazing time of 9.85 seconds which also makes him the fastest African of all time. He gained this feat with a 9.85 seconds at the Doha Grand Prix in 2006. Olusoji Fasuba clinched an Olympic bronze medal as part of the 4×100m relay team at the 2004 Athens Olympics. The following year, he competed in the 100 and 200m at the World Championships as well.

11. Carl Lewis (USA) – Fastest Time: 9.86 seconds

Regarded as one of the most dominant sprinter in the world, Carl Lewis is the last person to make his name in the list. Carl won 10 Olympic medals, including nine gold, and 10 World Championships medals, including eight gold which are enough to illustrate his dominance in the field. Lewis topped the world rankings in the 100 m, 200 m and long jump. He also set world records in the 100 m, 4 × 100 m and 4 × 200 m relays. Carl Lewis also holds the astonishing feat of one of the sport’s longest undefeated streaks with 65 consecutive victories in long jump, reigning over 10 years.
